About SA Tax Guide

An independent, ad-light resource built to make South African payroll tax easier to understand.

Why we built this

Most people encounter PAYE, UIF and tax brackets for the first time on their very first payslip — with no explanation of where the numbers come from. We built SA Tax Guide to close that gap: fast, accurate calculators paired with plain-language guides that actually explain the "why," not just the "what."

What we offer

A PAYE and take-home pay calculator, a UIF contribution calculator, a bonus/13th cheque tax calculator, and a salary period converter — each backed by a full tax-tables reference, a transparent methodology page, and long-form guides covering how PAYE, rebates and UIF actually work.

How we keep figures accurate

All tax brackets, rebates, thresholds and UIF figures are sourced from official SARS tax tables and National Treasury Budget Review publications, reviewed at the start of each tax year. Where a tax year hasn't yet been confirmed by an official Budget Speech, we clearly label the figures as provisional estimates rather than presenting them as fact — see our tax tables page for the current status of each year.

Privacy by design

Every calculation on this site is processed to generate your result and is not stored in a database or shared with any third party. We don't require an account, an email address, or any personal information to use any calculator here.

Not affiliated with SARS

SA Tax Guide is an independent, privately run resource and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the South African Revenue Service (SARS) or the Department of Employment and Labour. For your official tax position, always refer to SARS directly or a registered tax practitioner.
